Some of Linda Ronstadt’s old fans can’t get into the various musical styles she’s essayed over the past 20 years. Such folks only want to hear the old country-rock tunes from her 1970s heyday, such as “When Will I Be Loved” and “You’re No Good.” Others prefer her pop-rock hits like “Just One Look” and “Ooh Baby Baby.” And some people can only get behind her ’80s jazz-pop phase, where she reveled in covers by Billy Strayhorn and Rodgers & Hart. But it doesn’t really matter which genre the Arizona singer essays; she’s become masterful at all of them, and her legendarily powerful vocals have only become more soulful and intuitive in recent years. Tonight, she’s paired with Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, who are impressive performers in their own right. Violinists march into the audience, drawing rich, shimmering tones from their strings, while the group’s singers trade off on lead vocals on a series of supremely romantic ballads. Unlike so many mariachi bands, these guys avoid the usual clichés. With only two trumpets, they’re less brassy than most groups, preferring a richer and subtler blend of violins, acoustic guitars, guitarrón and even harp. When Ronstadt comes onstage and twines her gorgeously honeyed vocals with Los Camperos’ warm strings, the results can be spellbinding.

Education

In 1988 De Carlo received a B.A. degree in music from the Mexican National Music Conservatory. He was a member of the Teacher’s Bar of Graduates in México City between 1995 and 1997. He also collaborated with the Foundation of Social Investigations FISAC between 1998 and 1999.

Antonio De Carlo has achieved success in several fields, television, theatre and music being the most prominent. [1][2]
Antonio De Carlo has acted in various Mexican television soap operas including “Mi Pequeña Soledad”[3], “Imperio de Cristal”, “Marisol”, and “La Usurpadora”[4] among others; in film he appeared alongside known Mexican singer/actress Alejandra Guzman, and actors Omar Fierro and Sebastian Ligarde in the Mexican movie Verano Peligroso (Dangerous Summer).
In theatre he has participated in various plays including “Sugar” (1993), “La Dama de las Camelias” (1997), “En Roma el Amor es Broma” (1999) and “Zarzuelas Under The Stars” (2004).
Since 2002 he has been the President of the theatrical organization Latino Hollywood Theatre, which promotes plays dealing with Latino culture.
In 2003 De Carlo released an independent album titled “Despues del Silencio” (After the Silence). This album includes hits such as “La Otra España”, “Por Creer en Ti”, “Alma Llanera”, and the 1989 hit “En Mil Pedazos”.
He has received multiple recognition and awards such as The Golden Sun (Sol de Oro), The Golden Palms (Palmas de Oro), given by the Mexican National Circle of Journalists. He was awarded the Spanish Golden Laurel (Laurel de Oro) by the Same Out Group and the national award for public speaking in 1997 by Miguel Cornejo and Rosado. He is also included in the walk of fame in Tijuana’s International Airport.
De Carlo won his Emmy Award in 2006 as Hispanic News Anchor in the category of "Informational/Public Affairs Series"[1] and in the same year founded the Academia De Artes Antonio De Carlo (Hispanic Academy of Arts) in Los Angeles, California.
Since February 2007 he has been teaching music, singing and acting classes to a special group of tennagers with Down Syndrome, Autism and West Syndrome, this classes has been helping this kids in the develop of better social and language skills. He don't charge for this.[5]

El Cantautor ganador de un Emmy paso un trago amargo en su ciudad natal

Lo invitaron a cantar y a celebrar el Grito de Independencia en Palacio Municipal de Tijuana pero al llegar le negaron el acceso y fué encañonado por las autoridades

Por este conducto, informamos a todos los medios tanto mexicanos como internacionales, que el dia de ayer martes 15 de septiembre alrededor de las 10:00pm hora local, el cantautor mexicano Antonio De Carlo fue literalmente agredido y encañonado por autoridades municipales de la ciudad de Tijuana en el palacio municipal de dicha entidad.

Antonio habia sido invitado para cantar y a celebrar el grito de Independencia en su ciudad natal, donde desde hace varios años el fue incluido en el Paseo de las Luminarias como ciudadano distinguido, ademas de haber recibido las Llaves de la Ciudad en el 2003 y haber sido nombrado Embajador Honorario de Tijuana.

fue nombrado Embajador Honorario de la Ciudad.

Que sucedio?

Al llegar a la puerta de entrada del estacionamiento del palacio municipal de Tijuana, Antonio De Carlo quien iba acompañado por su coordinador de relaciones publicas, se identifico con la oficial "Morfin" mostrandole el "gafete de acceso" que previamente "Alan Muñoz" (uno de los productores del evento) habia entregado a Mario Rodriguez (coordinador de relaciones publicas en San Diego de Antonio), la oficial les nego la entrada aduciendo que Antonio no estaba en la lista. Cuando Antonio De Carlo trato de explicarle que habia sido invitado al evento por Joel Cordova Jimenez y que habia llegado a Tijuana desde Los Angeles se acercaron al auto otros oficiales, y al momento que la oficial "Morfin" les dijo a los oficiales que Antonio De Carlo "no estaba en la lista" un oficial se coloco al frente del auto con rifle en mano y otros dos de la misma manera en ambos costados del automovil, al momento que otro oficial le "pidio amablemente rifle en mano" se quitara de la puerta de acceso. Antonio tomo su celular y se comunicó con Alan Muñoz y le dijo lo que estaba sucediendo mientras que los oficiales no escuchan razones. Fue en ese momento cuando unos de los oficiales rifle en mano le dijo a Antonio "si no te mueves procederemos" a lo cual Antonio De Carlo le contesto al oficial "venga, dale... soy figura publica y se los repito he sido invitado al evento".

Venturosamente uno de los oficiales con cordura calmo los animos caldeados de los demas oficiales y le explico a Antonio que ellos solo recibian ordenes y la orden era no dejarlo entrar ya que su acceso no estaba autorizado... la pregunta es quien les dio la orden?

Posteriormente llego a la puerta de acceso la Sra. Danixa Alvarez quien se presento como subordinada de Alvaro Avila y encargada de relaciones publicas del municipio, Antonio De Carlo se presento con ella y le explico lo que estaba sucediendo, mientras que " Danixa" fumada exhalando el humo de su cigarrillo sobre la cara de Antonio, limitandose a indicarle que su acceso al estacionamiento del palacio municipal de Tijuana no estaba autorizado pero que Antonio podia estacionar su auto a un par de cuadras, evidentemente despues del trago amargo y de todo lo sucedido Antonio De Carlo opto por retirarse del lugar.

Como y quien invito a Antonio De Carlo al evento?

Mario Rodriguez en el mes de agosto coincidio con Joel Cordova Jimenez de Palacio Municipal de Tijuana y de ahi surgio la idea de invitar a Antonio a dicho evento sopretexto que el artista es nacido en Tijuana y recien lanzo al mercado su produccion titulada "Bohemia a la TJ" (Bohemia a la Tijuana). El Sr. Joel Cordova solicito le enviaran información de Antonio De Carlo y nuestra oficina como muchas veces lo ha hecho cuando se nos solicita, envio via email al Sr. Cordova la informacion solicitada. Posteriormente el Sr. Joel Cordova nos confirmo el 4 de septiembre la invitación.


Que hara Antonio De Carlo?

Por lo pronto, a traves de nuestra oficina una denuncia publica de los hechos, ya que consideramos que un recibimiento y trato como el que recibio Antonio De Carlo en su ciudad por parte de las autoridades minicipales esta fuera de todo orden, es injustificado, ademas de humillante e indigno para alquien quien ha sido incluido en el Paso de las Luminarias al poner en alto el nombre de dicha ciudad, ademas de haber recibido las Llaves de la Ciudad en reconocimiento a su trayactoria y ser nombrado Embajador Honorario de Tijuana en el 2003.

The Old San Gabriel Grapevine

For many years , now , tourists have gone
to San Gabriel to see the famous grapevine.
Some have been told that the vine was plan-
ed by mission fathers around 1780 , and
has grown into the world`s largest of its
kind. But the San Gabriel Chamber of Comm-
erce is quick to deny any connection with the
legend. Visitors , says the Chamber , are
invited to form their own opinions as to the
age of the vine .
For an affidavit has been presented and is
accepted by many , stating that in 1861 David
Franklin Hall planted the vine and to him be-
long the credit.
The San Gabriel Grapevine is sufficiently
attractive to halt any visitor , regardless of the
actual number of years which have seen it
flourish . It is in a block which includes
"Ramona`s Early Home " and the Mission Play

The Mission grape has historically been more important in California than it is today. The Mission grape is very productive and yields of ten tons per acre not unheard of.

The Mission grape has high sugar levels and very little acidity. Grape clusters are loose, helping the varietal resist mildew and mold. The Mission grape likes warm climates and is often harvested late in the season. Pigments rarely develop to a high degree in the grape, and it tends to make bland table wines.

Spanish Missionaries first brought the grape to Mexico during the 16th century. The vines that Father Juniper Serra planted at Mission San Diego in 1769 probably descended from these original grapes. During the 19th century, the Mission varietal fell out of use as European immigrants moved to California and began planting other varietals.

Nonetheless, the Mission grape continues to thrive in some warm, inland areas. There are currently about 1,000 acres of the grape in California. It is still made into small amounts of a fortified wine called Angelica. There are also a few wineries in Amador County that make table wines with the grape.

The Mission grape is genetically very similar to the Criolla varietal from Spain and they may be synonymous. It is no longer very important in that country.

There is no question about the authenticity of the
theater but, unfortunately for travelers` peace
of mind, Ventura also exhibits a Home of Ramona.
Visitors , as the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce
remarks, should examine exhibits with an eye to
their general interest - and make their own decision.

Hompa Hongwanji Temple

Buddhism as traditionally conceived is a path of salvation attained through insight into the ultimate nature of reality.[2] Buddhism encompasses a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices that are largely based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as the Buddha (Pali/Sanskrit for "The Awakened One").
Born in what is today Nepal, the Buddha lived and taught in the northeastern region of the Indian subcontinent and most likely died around 400 BCE in what is now modern India. Adherents recognize the Buddha as an awakened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings escape the cycle of suffering and rebirth. The Buddha's teachings provide instructions on how to understand the true nature of phenomena, end suffering, and achieve nirvana.
Buddhists use various methods to liberate themselves and others from the suffering of worldly existence. These include ethical conduct and altruism, devotional practices and ceremonies, the invocation of bodhisattvas, renunciation, meditation, the cultivation of mindfulness and wisdom, study, and physical exercises.
Two major branches of Buddhism are broadly recognized: Theravada ("The School of the Elders") and Mahayana ("The Great Vehicle"). Theravada, the oldest surviving, has a widespread following in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia whilst Mahayana, which is found throughout East Asia, includes the traditions of Pure Land, Zen, Nichiren Buddhism, Shingon, Tibetan Buddhism and Tendai. In some methods of classification, Vajrayana is considered a third branch. Buddhist schools disagree on the historical teachings of the Buddha and on the importance and canonicity of various scriptures. [3] While Buddhism remains most popular within Asia, both branches are now found throughout the world. Various sources put the number of Buddhists in the world between 230 million and 500 million.[4][5][6][7]

Saint Vibiana `s Cathedral

in 1870. The neighborhood was one
of fine houses, of dignity then. But
through the years the majestic church
has witnessed the decay of Main Street,
degeneration of its residents.
" Main Street bums " shufle past ; tieves
and women of the street in the very sha-
dow of the walls. But the squalor of its
surroundings cannot affect the beauty of
Saint Vibiana`s, one of the outstanding
churches rests the body of Bishop Paddeus
Amat, first bishop of Los Angeles,
through whose efforts the cathedral was
built. In an urn above the main altar are
the relics of Saint Vibiana , martyred saint
in whose honor the cathedral was named.
Church historians record that the sacred
remains of Saint Vibiana were discovered
in 1853 , in excavations along the Appian
Way in the catacombs of Rome . An urn
above her sepulcher contained the eviden-
ce of her martyrdom. She is believed to have
been no more than thirteen or fourteen years
old at the time of her death.
Her relics were brought to Los Angeles
through the efforts of Bishop Amat , who
promised the Pope to erect a cathedral in her
honor. They were placed above the altar
when Saint Vibiana `s was consecrated.

The former Cathedral of Saint Vibiana, often called St. Vibiana's, was the mother church cathedral parish of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles under the pastoral care of the Archbishop of Los Angeles. It is now the site of a performing arts complex as well as the Little Tokyo branch of the Los Angeles Public Library. The original cathedral structure is one of the last remaining buildings from the early period of Los Angeles history.

Plans for a cathedral dated back to 1859; and land for the facility was donated by Amiel Cavalier. The complex, on the Southeast corner of Main and Second Street, in downtown Los Angeles was dedicated in 1876, and cost $80,000 USD. The Cathedral's architect, Ezra F. Kysor, also designed the landmark Pico House. The Baroque-inspired Italianate structure was a landmark in the early days of Los Angeles; when it opened it could hold one-tenth of the young town's population.[1] The interior was remodeled around 1895, using onyx and marble; the exterior facade was changed in 1922-24 to give it its present look, said to be based on a Roman design.
Pope Pius IX chose the Cathedral's name, choosing 3rd century Roman martyr Saint Vibiana. Cathedrals traditionally contained the relics of a saint, so the remains of St. Vibiana were removed from the Catacombs of Rome and moved to a gilt and plate glass sarcophagus located in a niche above the high altar.
During the 1940s, a rectory and school building were added. The school closed in 1969 because the parish could not afford it. It became a convent for the Disciples of the Divine Master.
The facility was outgrown by the region's rapidly expanding population, and the Archdiocese decided that it needed a larger main facility; however, preservationists pressured them to not destroy the historic landmark. The situation was complicated further when the 1994 Northridge Earthquake caused extensive damage to the cathedral and its 1,200-seat sanctuary.[1] Deciding that the damage was not worth repairing in such a small structure, the Archdiocese began demolition on the site in 1996, without permits. However, the sudden dismantling of the bell tower on a Saturday morning prompted a frantic save-the-cathedral campaign, and work by the Archdiocese was halted by preservationists who had a temporary restraining order placed on demolition.[1] The Archdiocese argued that it had the right to level its own facility; preservationists and the city wanted the church to be preserved. The structure was listed on the country's "11 Most Endangered Places" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. A state Court of Appeal rejected the archdiocese's argument to be allowed to quickly demolish the cathedral; then City Councilwoman Rita Walters had moved to strip the cathedral of its historic monument status, an action that would exempt the archdiocese from having to prepare the full environmental impact study normally required for destruction of a city landmark.[1]
Finally a compromise was reached: the City of Los Angeles agreed to swap land with the Archdiocese, giving the Church a much larger plot next to the 101 Freeway. The Archdiocese agreed and the land was developed into the new Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, constructed and consecrated as the new mother church cathedral parish of the Archdiocese. Some items from St. Vibiana's Cathedral were used in the new Cathedral. The stained glass and sarcophagus were placed in the new Cathedral's crypt mausoleum. Pipes from the 1980 Austin pipe organ have been incorporated into the organ at the new Cathedral. An Oratorio about Saint Vibiana was written by Peter Boyd and performed in Pacoima in 1997.
The Cathedral site was taken over by the city. The city sold the former cathedral building to downtown developer Tom Gilmore in 1999 for $4.6 million.[1] The non-historic 1940s Education Building was demolished, making way for the new Little Tokyo Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.
In August 2007, the 3,500-pound cupola was returned to the top of the 83-foot-tall bell tower.[1]

Debo esta cronica a don Ezequiel Moreno hace cuatro
años . Es decir desde 1968 . Fue entonces que La Esperanza
cumplio medio siglo de vida.
Yo me dice el proposito de que no me pasara inadvertido
el aniverzario . ? Era posible que un comerciante mexicano
cumpliera cincuenta años de establecido y que no se le rin-
diera un publico reconociemiento?.
Por distintos lados lo advverti . Y luego , hasta yo mismo ,
tan gentil dispensador de reconocimientos , me quede ca-
llado . No hubiera querido quedarme en silencio.

Sin embargo , desde entonces, como un trocedor que me
taladra la entraña , he tenido conmmigo el recuerdo de la
deuda incumplida.
Es el propio don Ezequiel el que me da ahora el motivo su-
ficiente para escribir sobre el. Hace varios dias me llamo.
Queria hablar conmigo. Me invito a cenar con en en La Espe-
ranza de Main y Tercera, donde yo no habia estado aun, a
pesar de que lleva un aña ya de inagurada.
Es increible Moreno, a sus años , se haya lanzado a este
nuevo esfuerzo, que, en definitiva , no era mas que una ries-
gosa aventura.
Se trata de una considerable inversion . Pero ? por que ? ..
? Como?
? Que razon impluso a Moreno a abrir este nuevo estableci-
miento cuando lo que habia llegado para el era el necesario
descanso , el invevitable retiro, despues de tantos años de
trabajo , de esfuerzo creador?.
Despues que me muestra el lugar, aparte de lo que se le en-
tra a uno por los ojos, y de darme las debidas explicaciones
sobre todo sy cada uno de sus detalles con esa palabra meti-
culosa con que habla don Ezequiel , me dijo.
- Me informaron que dentro de un año tenia que abandonar
el lugar de La Placita, y no me conforme con ver que la obra
de tanto años desapareciera. Por eso fue que antes de que lle-
gara el fatal desalojamiento del local maracado con el numero
507 al Norte de la Main, me di a la improba tarea de buscar
un sitio donde poder continuar la historia de La Esperanza.
Despues de muchos meses de busqueda , encontre este . Y
una vez encontrado , comezo el largo proceso que , al fin, cul-
mino con la apertura de este restaurant , donde funciona tam-
bien la panaderia que estaba antes en North Broadway....
Paso por paso me conto Moreno todo lo que vivio enre un mo-
mento y otro . No le faltaron dos accidentes, como consecuen-
cia de que el es un hombre que siente la necesidad de hacer mu-
chas cosas por su cuenta.
Conoci a Moreno cuando llegue a Los Angeles. En los momentos
iniciales de mi trabajo en La Opinion. Era entonces presidente de
la Camara de Comercio Mexicana. Transcurria su segundo perio-
do.
Creo que nuestro encuentro fue en una sesion del Comite Mexi-
cano Civico Patriotico, que se estaba reuniendo en aquellos dias
de septiembre dandole los ultimos toques a la organizacion de las
Fiestas Patris de ese año.
Realmente fue muy oportuno para mi llegar a Los Angeles en lso
ultimos dias de agosto y comenzar ya en los primeros de septiem-
bre. porque el Comite me sirvio para conocer de golpe a muchos
de lso ciudadanos mas importantes de nuestra comunidad.
Conocidos ya don Ezequiel y yo, estuve con el en La Esperanza .
Me conto su vida, y escribi. Luego emprece a asistir a las sesio-
nes de la Camara. Estuve presente en las elecciones que el presi-
dio y en las que salio electo el licenciado Manuel Q. Sanz.
Fuera de la presidencia de la Camara, nunca hemos perdido
Moreno y yo el contacto . No paso mucho tiempo sin que se pro-
dujera algo que nos obligo a vernos constantemente . Fue la incia-
tiva que el concibio y alento por tanto tiempo de que se erigiera
un monumento en Los Angeles a John F. Kennedy, or parte de
nuestra comunidad de habla hispana. Hubiera sido ese un justo
reconocimiento al joven estadista asesinadl, que tanta sensibilidad
habia exhibido para nuestra gente.
Fue entonces cuando yo me percate, con mis propios ojos , cuan-
ta indomable tenacidad hay en este hombre pequeño , pero fuerte.
A traves de los años he aprendido muchas cosas de don Ezequiel
Moreno. Es un hombre infatigablemente trabajador. De los que no
se cansan . De los que solo saben ganarse el pan de cada dia con
el sudor de su frente.
Hace años , en la noche del 24 de diciembre pase por frente a
La Esperanza . Desde el coche , lo vi dentro del lugar, Y con el esa
mujer ejemplar que no podemos dejar de mencionar cada vez que
aludimos a Moreno. Es doña Crucita, tan querida y repetada por to-
dos . Ella era la presidenta de la Camara de Comercio de Damas
Mexicanas , cuando el presidia la Camara e los señores. Asi el dicen
a las señoras.
He aprendico tambien que don Ezequiel , a pesar de ser un hombre
de comercio, el mostrador no ha sido una dificultad para sus mas no-
bles y generosos ideales.
Mexicano a carta cabal, ama a Mexico. Y como radica en Estados
Unidos, parte de cuanto quiere a este pais, vive desvelado por todo
lo mexicano que hay aqui.
Esto es muy importante , porque siendo asi don Ezeqiel va mas alla
de su egoismo y se proyecta constantemente con una ostensible
conciencia de comunidad.
Se habla con el y de inmediato esta disertando sobre todo lo que
puede hacerse por levantar el nivel de nuestra gente, por exaltar
nuestros valores , por honrar nuestras grandezas.
Pero acaso lo qeu mas he admirado en el es su tenacida, su contan-
cia para todos los esfuerzos que alienta, ya sean personales o ya
tengan que ver con la comunidad.
Una prueba de ello es La Esperanza de Tercera y Main. Otro testi-
monio es que, aunque parezca mentira , don Ezequiel no se da por
vencido en su empeño de rendirle un tribulo permanente al martir
de Dallas.
Pero sin que se de por vencido , don Ezequiel empieza a comprender
que no es posible para el seguir con la lucha que suman dos estable-
cimeintos, ya que ,cuando ya tenia hecho el contrato de Main y Tercera
le informaron de nuevo que , por fin, no tenia que desalojar el local
de la Placita.
Ante esta situacion , don Ezequiel sabe que tiene que desprenderse
del nuevo negocio. Y hasta de los dos si es necesario , porque ya
cerca de los setenta y seis años, tras cincuenta y cuatro de estable-
cido, se impone el definitivo descanso. No es cosa de morirse despa-
chando platillos mexicanos y fabricando pan, el famoso pan de La
Espernaza.
- Entonces podria volver a la Camara....
He aqui otra de las obsesiones de don Ezequiel . El sostiene que la
Camara es un negocio y que mientras no se ahga asi , son inutiles todos
los esfuerzos.
Despues de tres horas de converzacion, dejo a don Ezequiel . Son las
diez de la noche. Y todavia me dice que estara en pie hasta las dos de
la madrugas. Es increible , pero cierto.

Edward R. Roybal , Los Angeles
City councilman, announced today
that he will be a candidate for Los
Angeles County Supervisor in the
Third District now served by John
Anson Ford, who is retiring. The
non- partisan election will be held
next June in conjunction with ballo-
ting for the Governorship and other
statewide and Congressional offices.
" All of us regret the retirement of
Supervisor Ford" , Roybal said, that
I have had experience which can be
put to even greater use in the larger
geographical area of the County , "
Roybal declares.
" The rapid growth of the county re-
quires solutions to the problem of
retaining efficiency in government
while we seek a tax structure that
realistically represents economy and
efficiency . We must attack air pollu-
tion and traffic congestion with vigor.
We must show the foresight to provi-
de adequate water supplies and pro-
tec the county with flood controls.
" In this period of growth we must
guarantee an hones approach to land
ise and zoning. The pressure to do
otherwise in some quarters has been
enormous . We must plan for diversi-
fication of industry to balance employ-
ment changes in teh aircraft and other
industries affected by shifts in the na-
tional and international picture.
" In this age of atom and space develo-
ment we cannot forget to show proper
appreciation for the cultural and histo-
rical background of our county . And
it is important for us to bring efficincy
to that part of our county government
devoted to human welfare through agen-
cies dealing with public health , educa-
tion and problems of the aged and the
unfortunate " Royal said.
" The outlay for old age is 10 million
dollars a month which we dispense for
the Federal and State fovernments. Any
time we can assist with craft and vocatio-
nal training and rehabilitation we cut costs.
Our County Jail has bee too small for years
to care for the thousands who must be cared
for and in line with Grand Jury recommenda-
tions we must plan more adequate facilities."
The Third Supervisorial District extends
from Montebello on the east to West Hollywood.
Beside the Downtown Los Angeles business
section it includes Bell , Maywood, Bell Gardens,
Vernosn Cudahy , Belvedere, East Los Angeles,
part of Highland Park , the Sirverlake , Echo
Park and Westlake Park districts, Hollywood,
Mirable Mile and Wilshire districts .

Councilman Roybal was elected in 1949
and has been elected without opposition
the last two times. His present terms
runs until 1961 . He has been chairman
of the Council `s Public Health and Wel-
fare Committee the past eight years.



Royal Roybal was born in Alburquerque,
New Mexico and is a descendent of one
of the original founding families of the
city of Santa Fe which was given a land
grant by the King of Spain. He was rai-
sed in the Boyle Heights area and atten-
ded public schools. During the depre-
sion he was graduated fron Roosevelt
High School and then went to CCC camps
to save money for college. He later
trained in business administraction at
the University of California, Los Angeles
His interest aroused by the serious
health problem in his neighborhood,
Royal became a public health educator
with the California TS Assn.
After serving in the U.S. Army Roybal
became one of the directors of health
education for the L. A. County TB and
Health Assn. He is one of the organizers
and the first president of the Community
Service Organization which has now beco-
me a national organization.
Roybal is married. He and his wife, Lucille,
have three children: Lucille , Lillian and
Eduard R. Roybal .
Among the many groups in which be has
been active are the following: American Legion,
Boy Scouts, U.S. Mexico Health Ass., County
Committee on Human Relations , County
Cimmittes on Community Relations, Welfare
Council of Metropolitan Los Angeles , Council
for Equelity in Employment , and the Belvedere,
Hollenbeck and Downtown Co-ordinating Councils.
He has been identified with the Knights of Colum-
bus , Eastside Boys Club, Holy Family Adoption
Service and Variety Boys Club
